Revitalising our Estuaries investment readiness sustainable finance
After successfully delivering a portfolio of nature-based solutions for a previous project with Groundwork NE & Cumbria, we have been appointed to develop a financial model which will allow Groundwork to generate revenue from benefits delivered by its Revitalising our Estuaries (RoE) and nature-based solutions (NBS) programme.

Collaborative work to understand the capabilities of data
We were tasked with overseeing and managing this project alongside Accelar Limited. We delivered the natural capital evaluation and monitoring plan aswell as providing technical input on natural capital. Working collaboratively, we were able to engage with stakeholders and hold multiple workshops online and in-person to understand the capabilities of data supplied by the client and what could and could not be achieved.
Innovative green finance to develop a sustainable investment model
Green finance is an innovative new area of development. This project helped to create a model that Groundwork NE & Cumbria can take on and develop to market their nature-based solutions in the form of credits (carbon or Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG)) in the future. The new financial model is an important first step in developing clearly defined, independently validated products for increasing the development of estuarine NBS.
Marketing deliverables for NBS
The financial model, natural capital guidance, monitoring plan and marketing deliverables will all support Groundwork in marketing its NBS. This project will also act as a template on how to market a financial model for NBS and is a good example of how green finance projects could be conducted in the future.
